Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

Thanksgiving

I’m thankful for
This time I have
To hold my loved ones near,
to soldiers overseas,
Thank you for everything,
I hope this reaches your ears.

To veterans past and present,
To the wounded and the lost,
Know it wasn’t in vain.
I’m thankful for my own two arms,
To hug away
My children’s pain.

I’m thankful for
This house of mine,
This place that I call home,
For bees
And flowers
And honeycomb.

And so grateful for
Ear-piercing shrieks,
And sweet giggles.
For tears, and hugs,
Story time,
And little wiggles.

So very thankful
For my blue-eyed boys,
And girls, one of each,
All of them blond,
All of them mine,
As is Furry Beast.

I can’t forget
The wonderful people
Who sparkle and shine,
Who make me laugh,
Give me a hard time,
And make my life bright.

Without them,
None of the things
Would be worth my while,
The most important “things”
Are the wonderful people
With whom I share a smile.

So many things,
And so many people,
I can’t name them all,
Some of them big,
And some of them short,
But none of them small.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Enjoy your version of the holiday, however you celebrate!

And because I’m full of snark today, this is how I replied:

Thank you so much for your interest in my craft. At this time, I am regretfully in edit mode, with plans of releasing my second short story in the coming months, so I will not have time to answer all of your questions about neurotic writers. We’re an oddly eclectic assortment of earthly beings with too many strange, sometimes disturbing, sometimes rib-crackingly funny internal thoughts flowing through our veins, begging for escape. Because of “Edit-mode” (also known as staring blankly at the screen for several hours trying to figure out how to fill in the Grand Canyon that is the current plot hole) I am unable to comprehend much more than colorful metaphors and coffee. And liquor.
Again, thank you for your interest. I wish you the best in your writing endeavors.

PS: All those “always” or “never” things writing bloggers like to call “rules” are really more what we call “guidelines,” and should not be adhered to as the laws of writing. Every tool has it’s place in your prose. The trick is knowing when, where, and how to use them, just like in the wood shop.
She may, or may not, have busted a gut laughing. In commentary in our Google chat, she mentioned that she took “wood” to a dirty place that is not full of tools and furniture. Then blamed me. I do take full credit for the derailment. I’ve corrupted another innocent soul, and brought them over to the land of double entendre. *Takes a bow and steps out of the spotlight*

Friends…

I have a few. They’re all pretty great. We’ve all got warped minds, and have fantastic conversations about how things are “always better with power tools,” and how to improvise weapons with things like welders. (Purely in the name of research, I promise.)

Tuesday nights are reserved for my NaNoWriMo pals. We meet year-round, and write. Or, you know. Try to. But we also talk, especially that last hour of the night, when we’re all a little punchy. Tonight was no exception.

Tonight, they set aside a little time to help me come up with taglines for a novel I’m working on. One of my fabulous friends, suggested I go home and sit down with a bottle of beer – or my equivalent anyway, which would be some fruity concoction involving vodka and crushed ice – and just free-write. She told me I’d start coughing up one-liners, and one of them would be genius.

In other words, take a page from all the famous writers from a bygone era – minus the syphilis, of course – get drunk and start coughing up hairballs of genius. So here’s my first hairball of genius. A blog. Now it’s up to me to maintain it, and actually post to it. On a weekly basis. With any luck, I’ll stick to that goal, and actually say something that means something to someone.

(PS: This was actually written yesterday, however, for some reason, it was posted as a page instead of a blog post. A couple times. Hopefully, it will work this time. *Crossing fingers*)
